Indianapolis 500 supporters seek to accelerate its appeal

The race remains a singular event, though its following is not what it was. And amid NASCAR's rise, replenishing its popularity is a tall order for IndyCar racing.

INDIANAPOLIS-- The late Dan Wheldon epitomized the popular notion of a race car driver: He was fearless, talented, charismatic and dashing, right down to his white-framed sunglasses.
